Turkey sandwiches and farming

Recently Denise purchased Lightroom for me to use to manage our image files.  I have been reading up on preparing for the transition and it does not seem all that easy.  Basically Lightroom is a complex asset management tool that is supposed to help with work flow and image editing.  While I trust that it is helpful and cool I do not look forward to the turmoils of changing my work flow.

While preparing my images for the new transition I came across a bunch of images i took with my buddy Kenneth in Beeville.  He was in the middle of his corn and grain harvest so I jumped aboard his 13 row combine and hung with him for a couple days.  It was a lot of fun but going back through the images a few years later was even more fun.

Here is a little sample of a few of my favorites.

Old barns and sheds are cool.  They are like windbreakers in the fields and weather like a old cowboy.

This is one big tractor.  I didn't get to drive it but I did get to sit in the copilot chair and gnaw at Kenneth's ear asking questions all day.  I think we were taking a break here.  Kenneth's wife made us these awesome turkey and onion sandwiches on white bread.  I think I may be making one for lunch today.  Here is the recipe in the event you want to join me.

2 slices white bread
A bunch of turkey
A couple slices tomato
A couple slices of onion
Mayonnaise

Put it together and eat it.  You will need some sweet tea to wash the bread glue form the roof of your mouth.

Here we are inside the machine getting after that harvest.  Its relatively loud and dusty.

Here is my man Kenneth.  If you notice we are hauling through this corn.  You would think this would be slow but when there is a rain a coming and bills to pay you push the machine to the end and see what falls out later.

These farmers chase around the storms and there had been a bit of rain that day.  The clouds let up and I thought it was rather cool that the sun was glowing on the storage containers off in the distance.

Inside the containers there is a large sifter.  I climbed in through this little hatch to get a few images inside.  The gold stuff on the ground is called money.

Hope you enjoyed the little farming tour.  And make sure and have that turkey sandwich.  And the next time you eat corn just remember where it comes from.
