Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings

I am a huge fan of great women like Nina Simone, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald , Koko Taylor and my super hot love affair with Amy Winehouse but recently I have a new love.  Her name is Sharon Jones and this lady gets the speakers cracked with her old school style and great songs.  The coolest thing is she was once a prison guard.  So she is not one to tangle with.

So if you looking for that smokey slow dance or that old school deep soul check out 100 Days, 100 Nights by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.

Sandi Thom - Smile It Confuses People

One of our favorite clients (Susan Hunt) sent us a little YouTube link of Sandi Thom.  We checked it out and immediately fell in love with this girls music.  Her little diddy "I wish I was a Punk Rocker" is a little anthem to all of us that remember when cell phones were called Car Phones, MTV really did play music and computers were only in the library.
Check out her track at YouTube:
And buy the album because the rest of the tracks are as cool as this one.

Amy Winehouse - Back to Black

So all I ever hear about this girl is that she is little weird and unpredictable.  I have not heard her music and decided to go check it out.  Its unfortunate she is surrounded by so much drama because her sound is yummy like a hot cup of coco with a little wild turkey in it.  She has this old soulful sound that is mellow and smooth.  If you could see her sound it would look like thick smoke oozing out of your speakers.  I hope she sticks around because she could have a great influence on some great music.  Pick up the tracks and let your mind wander.

The Black Keys - Your Touch - The E.P.

Well here it is Friday again and I am looking for something new.  Now this isn't a new album but one that I recently purchased.  The Black Keys kick out some serious jams that can only be appreciated LOUD.
If your looking for that rough around the edges, are these guys drunk, kind of sound than this is the one.  Personally I have cooked a lot of BBQ jamming to this duo and their latest LP will be just another tool in my cook-off mix.
So head on over to itunes to pick up the latest kickadelick rock album by The Black Keys

FEIST - The Reminder

Like most I too get sucked into the marketing strategies of companies through their ever repettitve blasts of 30 second pop culture.  Apple has this down to a knack with our desire to follow like a bunch of lemmings.  Every time I see that commercial of the new Nano Video I keep wanting to go get that 1234 song from Feist.

I was on the phone with Farrah Braniff the other day and heard this whaling in the background.  After inquiry, she informed me that she was listening to Feist.  So naturally I went and downloaded it to check it out myself.  Overall its pretty good.  Very mellow but toe tapping is appropriate and recommended.  This LP is definitely one to have on while mulling through images to design albums.

The Reminder reminds me of a mix of Fiona Apple, the Pretenders and Bjork. So pick it up and enjoy.  There is even a little diddy that is a remake of Nina Simone's See Line Woman.  And if you dig Nina Simone your in good company.
